Things I’ve Learned; The body is stronger than you think

Today I learned that the body is always stronger than you might think. Only for the past few months have I been immersing myself into consistent gym session again. Gym has always been one of my least favourite training sessions to do, but recently it has found a nice humble spot in my weekly planning as I have discovered new found enjoyment from completing a hard earned gym session. During my time throwing iron around as it were, the human body never stops amazing me at the capabilities it has. Sometimes when doing an exercise I am not overly familiar with yet, I will ask my strength and conditioning coach what weight he thinks I should be doing. My uncertainty grows however as he replies with a weight that is beyond the ballpark I would have guessed. As was the case today, I had single arm dumbbell rows in my program, an exercise I haven’t done a great deal of times. I asked “hey coach what weight do you reckon for this?” to which he replied with “ahh probably around 50kg”. The uncertainty was evident as I awkwardly carried a 50kg dumbbell with two hands over to the bench. But an enlightening wave of confidence rushed over me as I began my first set of 8 pulls and then continued on to complete said set of 8 pulls.
I find these moments really intriguing to think about, as I was breaking a sweat as I awkwardly carried this singular dumbbell from one side of the gym to the other, but once there my body was able to just lift it the required number of times. Fascinates me thinking about the body and its possible potential as it continues to surprise me with every hard training session I do.
